I hand-drew this animation at the beginning of the year for school. Two solid days hunched over a lightbox, punching out 66 frames. I'm pleased with it, but would like to make a longer, more smoothly animated segment with a stronger narrative and possibly some colour. A long-term project, I guess.

May You Live In Interesting Times
The 1960s produced some of the most emotionally evocative imagery ever. This illustration is derived from a photo whose strong self-contained narrative appealed to me. Very powerful stuff.
I digitally cleaned up the drawing (read: Live Traced it) to compensate for the crappy ink that I use/can afford. Not sure if that's frowned down upon ... anyways, here's the original scan:
Recommended reading: Joe Haldeman's "1968", an account of the war fought on both Vietnamese soil and the American home front.

Canned Goods
I recently completed this piece for school; my first time using aerosol paints. Now that the semester is over and the deadline pressures have temporarily abated, I should be working on any of my long-gestating personal projects ... but I can't help myself. Spray-paint is (for me, at least) new and fun. So I'm working on a spiritual successor instead (and trying to nail some more intricate stencils).

"TERMINATOR IS DEAD"
These are two of my earliest drawings -- scribbled in the back of my older brother's immaculately kept sketchbooks. Fun, but puzzling. Who let me watch Terminator 2 at age 4? And why is Batman's arm growing out of his cape?
Right now, I'm at the midpoint of my 'official' artistic education; exactly halfway between the beginning and end of my time at art school. And for the first time, I feel like I'm beginning to develop a style and practice that is uniquely my own. Hopefully, this blog can help document that process. Thanks for checking it out.
